Adult Education

There are a wide variety of Adult Christian Education (CE) programs held during the year. We make an effort to accommodate the spiritual interests and needs of members. Some of the offerings in 2011-12 are:

Wednesday Study Group

May 9 & 23 The Bible and the UCC by the Still Speaking Writers' Group

Any and all are invited to be part of the Wednesday Study Group.  Books for the group are available through Laura Lokken, Director of Family Ministries, at First Congregational Church UCC.  Books are available at no cost.  Those who choose are invited to make contributions to the Adult Christian Education program.  The Wednesday Study Group will meet in the Adult CE Room upstairs at the church from 10-11:30 a.m..  Come when you can.  If you are unable to complete the assigned reading, don’t let it keep you from joining in the discussions when you are able to come.  Childcare is available, but call in advance to confirm the necessity of childcare.  If you are interested in an evening section of the Wednesday Study Group, let Laura Lokken know and we will see if that can be arranged.

Get Ready! (No Signup required)

This Bible study meets each Friday morning from 10-11 a.m. in the church lounge. Get Ready! is for those who want to spend some time studying the scripture for the upcoming Sunday. We spend time reading the scripture from three different versions of the Bible and discuss our interpretation and our insights into how the scripture is speaking to us in our lives today. All are welcome to join us when able.

Living The Questions(LtQ2)-Every Wednesday is still meeting from 5:45-7 pm, an Adult Christian Education group study will be offered called LtQ2. This is a DVD group study that allows people to openly and freely ask and explore the questions they have about their faith. People know that at its core, Christianity has something good to offer the human race. At the same time, many have a sense that they are alone in being a "thinking" Christian and that "salvaging" Christianity is a hopeless task. This web based group study will explore the traditions and theologies. Living the Question will help participants discover the significance of Christianity in the 21st Century and what a meaningful faith can look like in today's world. The group study will be facilitated by Linda Buchs-Hammonds. Please call the church office at 715-423-0350 or send an e-mail to the Church Secretary if interested in joining.

Social Justice Group - Meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month after worship. Please join us in Laura's office from 10:45-11:30 a.m. Doing justice, seeking peace and building community are central to the identity of the United Church of Christ. We invite you to explore the breadth and depth of the UCC's justice work. Join us in building a stronger faith-based movement for peace, justice, equality and inclusivity.
